Sutter Creek, Amador County, California is on historic Highway 49, the Gold Rush Highway, at the 1200 ft. level in the Sierra Nevada foothills, approximately forty miles southeast of Sacramento, the California capital.

San Francisco is about 100 miles to the west, Lake Tahoe is about seventy-five miles northeast.

Yosemite National Park lies 110 miles to the south, and the vast Great Basin and Sierra wilderness areas are nearby. Sutter Creek is at the center of a spectacular vacation, recreation and adventure paradise. Throw in Sutter Creek's wonderful shopping, world-class B&Bs, the great assortment of restaurants and the thirty wineries just minutes away and it's no wonder that in 2002 Money Magazine named Amador County the best vacation spot in North America!

Sutter Creek is in the heart of some of the richest gold mining areas of the fabled Mother Lode and was founded by John Sutter himself. Several of the richest mines are within the Sutter Creek city limits. Leland Stanford struck it rich here and converted that fortune to his successes with the transcontinental railroad and Stanford University.
